Folding house Plans
DESCRIPTION
Living near a serene lake amidst nature is a dream, isn't it? But this stunning waterfront home takes your dream to a whole new level. Join us on an exclusive home tour of this ultra-modern house with contemporary architecture and breathtaking waterfront views.
The core concept of this house is its seamless integration with the natural beauty of the surroundings, achieved through the use of organic materials like stones, wood, and concrete. Offering panoramic 360-degree views, this house is designed to preserve both the scenic vistas and your privacy. Elevated above the lake on four V-shaped pillars, the main entrance features a curved ramp that mimics the gentle movement of the water. As you walk along the ramp, you'll be captivated by the mesmerizing nature surrounding you.
The entire house is adorned with folding panels called muxarabis, which can be opened to reveal the picturesque surroundings. Not only do these panels add a touch of elegance, but they also facilitate ventilation and allow natural light to permeate through their intricate patterns.
Step inside, and you'll be greeted by a warm and cozy interior, adorned with shades of gray, black, and wooden accents. Every piece of furniture has been carefully selected to harmonize with the overall concept of the house.
This remarkable waterfront home boasts two suites offering breathtaking views of the nature, complete with indulgent bathtubs where you can unwind and enjoy the scenery while savoring a glass of fine wine. There's even a small cellar to store your most prized bottles, perfect for celebrating milestones or enjoying a peaceful evening surrounded by nature.
A home on the waterfront deserves exclusive access to the lake, especially on hot days. If you enjoy swimming or sunbathing, the house features an outdoor area with two loungers that provide direct access to the shimmering waters.
Movement is the defining characteristic of this house. In addition to direct access to the lake, the roof is designed as a water mirror, reflecting the surroundings, while glass ceilings in various rooms allow you to witness the soothing motion of water within. The Folding House is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture, seamlessly blending with its natural environment, whether nestled by a tranquil lake or set amidst a lush green field.

- Dimension
MINIMUM LOT SIZE: 23x13M / 75,45ft x 42,651ft
THE FOLDING HOUSE HAS 2 OPTIONS OF TERRAINS THAT BEST SUIT THE DESIGN:
If you wish to build with a ramp (like in the video), the terrain must be larger. But if you choose the house without the ramp and only with the staircase, the terrain must have sufficient lateral clearances for the opening of the mashrabiyas, as shown in the image above.
- Areas:
First floor: 139,72m² / 350,04ft²
Underground (outdoor living): 21,08M² / 1503,93 ft²
Total: 160,8m² / 1730,83 sqft
- Structure
The house features a traditional structural system with concrete beams and columns. We have utilized a part of this structure to expose the concrete on the facades and some interior walls. Additionally, we have incorporated a ribbed slab system and opted not to use a ceiling. The ribbed slab serves as a structural element, allowing us to minimize the use of beams in the ceiling and achieve larger spans without the need for additional columns.
Apart from concrete, the house can also be constructed using a steel frame structure.
- House Position
The Folding house features a 360-degree view of the site with glass doors and walls, so natural ventilation and lighting will not be an issue for the house.
For temperature control, we incorporate latticework screens (mashrabiya) on all façades of the house. Mashrabiya, besides being architecturally appealing, aid in temperature control.
✔ As a permeable element, they reduce the impact of solar radiation in the rooms while allowing the passage of light and air, ensuring ventilation, natural lighting, and temperature control. Another advantage of mashrabiyas is that when closed, they also serve as visual protection, providing more privacy to the interior spaces of the house.
With these strategies we are able to leave the house with many more possibilities for temperature control.
But if you want to see from which positions the house will benefit or protect itself even more from the sun, follow these models:
COUNTRIES WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES:
If your city experiences high temperatures for most of the year, the optimal building position is with the north side on the left of the building. This ensures that the morning sun enters the main rooms (living room, dining room, kitchen, and master bedroom), while the hotter afternoon sun only reaches the bathrooms.
COUNTRIES WITH LOW TEMPERATURES:
If your city experiences very cold temperatures for most of the year, the best building position is with the north facing the rear facade of the house. This ensures that the majority of the sun hits the social areas of the house (living room, dining room, kitchen, and master bedroom), thereby increasing the overall temperature of the house.
These are the best positions to position the house on your lot but the house can also be mirrored to better fit your lot.
MUST MY HOUSE NECESSARILY BE LOCATED IN THESE POSITIONS?
No! As we have already mentioned, we use several strategies to control the natural temperature in the house. So, if the North does not align with these examples, do not worry.
This guide is also in the design guide booklet.
